SUMMARY 

Responsible for one-on-one and small group travel training and support services to eligible Travel Training Program participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates and provides one-on-one and small group travel training instruction to individuals with special needs, seniors and students in the safe and proper use of public transportation;
  2. Provides community based travel training;
  3. Provides training and instruction in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, bus rules and regulations, appropriate public behavior, safety skills (including crossing the street, signage, emergency procedures, how to read a bus schedule, landmark identification, bus pass procedures, );
  4. Maintains detailed records of trainee progress and prepares required reports as needed;
  5. Conducts and/or participates in program orientation presentation to community groups and organizations to explain program services and operations;
  6. Evaluates assessment information and determines if an individual is eligible for mobility training
    using defined criteria and established procedures;
  7. Conducts trainee assessments and explains mobility training goals and services, assessing for individual transportation needs and abilities to include identifying any barriers which would require special training efforts;
  8. Plans and develops individualized training schedules for program participants including identification of special needs training;
  9. Follows up with former travel trainees to evaluate the effectiveness of travel training;
  10. Ability to work alone as well as in a team

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Attends meetings as directed by the Travel Trainer Coordinator.
  2. Supports the Agency’s mission and partners with others to accomplish the mission.
  3. Maintains the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES   

The job has no employee supervisory responsibilities.

The Travel Trainer is at times a spokesperson for the agency. As such, he/she must adhere to and project high standards of business conduct. Must have an understanding of the agency mission and program objectives and how the role of travel training impacts upon the mission and program.

Ability to effectively and consistently demonstrate good judgment and to act decisively and effectively; excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills; excellent verbal and written skills, ability to work effectively with program managers, directors, consumers, families, community members and staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE      

Some college in social sciences preferred.  Experience in Travel Training preferred.  Experience interacting with individuals who have special needs and the elderly required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS        

Ability to read, write and communicate in English for the purposes of data collection, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in English and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Bilingual in English is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide at a high school level.
