New Horizons was founded in 1954 by eight parents who wanted to provide a brighter future for their disabled sons and daughters.  Since that time, volunteers have been valued at New Horizons for their involvement and support of our clients, programs, and agency. We invite you to join us.  You will likely find that through your volunteer commitment, your world will change!

If you are passionate about making an impact in any of the following areas, we need you.

  •  5k Run/ Walk on the Horizons - Special Event Volunteers

Special event volunteers constitute pre-event and day of event volunteers. Pre-event volunteers provide administrative support, assist with prospect/ donor researching, securing of auction items, keeping inventory of in-kind donations, making follow up calls, packaging of goody bags etc. Day of event volunteers  assist to set up the event, run registration, man  expo booths and on- course games, cheer participants and hand out refreshments, coordinate other volunteers and help with post – race clean up.

  •  Gerontology/ Nursing

Are you a geriatrician or gerontologist, do you have experience in providing end of life care to seniors, or you are a geriatric nurse or caregiver having worked with elderly persons living with other disabilities either physical or intellectual?  Do you enjoy researching the physiological secrets of the aging process? We need you to join a team of other professionals to help develop a program for our special needs clients who have Alzheimer or Dementia. This program will form the basis of participants’ daily/weekly schedule.

  •   Social Work / Special Education

Licensed Social Workers or students in the MSW programs or special education instructors are welcome to help enrich our programs and services. Your skills will greatly improve the quality of life of the special needs population we serve by providing support for excellent execution of our programs. You will work with Program directors to provide feedback and help shape some of our initiatives.

  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)/ Marketing

If you are passionate about jump starting new businesses by offering marketing intelligence that will drive the company to growth and success, this position is for you.  You will be required to strategically position the programs and services of the agency by conducting a SWOT analysis that will enhance decision making at Management level. A comparative analysis for newly initiated programs and information that will help existing programs attract private pay audiences will truly be appreciated.Likewise, our Sam’s Café can use your help to put together a Sales Kit that will offer a complete package to prospective clients. For example, the kit will include a pricing guide, menu options, seating capacity, additional services offered and a list of recommended vendors in addition to showcasing pictures for prior events.

  • Human Resources

With the dynamics of talent search, attracting and retaining qualified personnel we need you to help design a recruitment process for hiring and retaining candidates that are a good fit for our programs. As an HR professional, you will develop a talent management reference manual for supervisors; this will enhance mentoring new hires during probation period. Finally, you will create a checklist for selecting qualified personnel and keeping them motivated.

  • Computer Information Technology

Are you a problem solver? If you are technology savvy and you enjoy providing communications solutions, we need your expertise. As a result of expansion, we have a need to create and implement a customized data storage system. This system will track details of participants in the program, training schedules and hours committed to each participant, plus progress report. The database system will also consist of a tracking component for varied non Full Time workers, which can as well be used for payroll purposes.

  •  Props and Wall Designing

In continuation of the remodeling of our Sam’s Cafe, we need experienced interior designers to help give our banquet hall a face lift. Project focus include installing vanity, Archway/ mini gazebo, signage, stage lighting, lighting effects, multi player games, and water feature. If you are excited about creating a conducive and ambiance environment, this is an ideal volunteer position for you.

  •  Technology and Media Arts (TMA) Instructors

We need creative minds to tutor/ assist instructors at our brand new Technology and Media Arts program, serving highly functional special needs clients; who are animation enthusiasts. Clients in the program learn in a self-paced environment and often need a guardian to help them navigate through. If you have a "can - do" attitude, patient and willing to learn, this position is for you.
